Immediate Direct Payment (Paiement immédiat direct PID)

Immediate Direct Payment (PID) has been available to doctors (GPs, specialists and dentists) for several months now.

If your doctor already uses PID, you no longer need to pay the costs covered by health insurance in advance, as your doctor receives an instant transfer of the amount covered by the CNS directly from the CNS.

Enjoy the benefits of Immediate Direct Payment: no advance payment, the CNS takes care of everything!

With the PID system:

  • No more advance fees!
  • No more postage!
  • No more waiting for your reimbursement!

Ask your doctor if he is equiped with the PID system.

What are the advantages of PID?

No more advance payment!

With the PID, you no longer have to pay in advance. The part that the CNS normally reimburses (88% for doctors) is paid directly to the doctor. All you have to do is pay your personal participation (the remaining 12%) and any personal conveniences (CP codes).

Good to know: For children and young people under 18, you don't have to pay any personal participation, because everything is covered at 100%!

No more postage!

With the PID, you no longer need to send or drop off your claim at an agency! No advance payment, no claim for reimbursement.

No more waiting for your reimbursement!

With the PID, you no longer have to wait to receive your reimbursement.

How do I know if my doctor is using the PID?

Ask your doctor if he is already working with the PID!

There is no publicly available list of all the doctors who use Immediate Direct Payment.

The Ministry of Health and Social Security, the CNS, the Social Security IT Centre and the Agence eSanté are working hard to speed up the roll-out of PID, so that doctors can receive the portion of the cost covered by health insurance directly from the CNS and limit the insured person's payment to their personal contribution.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is PID?

Immediate Direct Payment (PID) allows your doctor to receive the portion of the amount covered by health insurance directly from the CNS. The transfer from the CNS is made instantly, meaning your doctor receives the corresponding amount in his bank account in just a few seconds.

Any amount payable by you (your personal contribution) is paid directly to the doctor by you.

Does the PID only apply to CNS insureds?

The PID applies to all insured persons covered by health and maternity insurance in Luxembourg (CNS, CMFEP, CMFEC, EMCFL).

What about other means of reimbursement / coverage?

The PID is not intended to replace an existing form of coverage. It is a complement to other methods of reimbursement. Conventional and accelerated reimbursements will therefore continue to exist, in particular:

  • if your doctor is not yet (technically) ready for the PID;
  • if a technical problem occurs;
  • if you do not wish to use the PID;
  • in the event of disagreement with CNS pricing (doctor and/or patient).

In other words, any bill for which you (or a third party) have paid in advance can be submitted to the CNS for reimbursement.

What documents do I receive when my doctor uses the PID?

From your doctor

Your doctor will print out a receipt in accordance with the template provided. A statement of fees (traditional invoice) does not need to be printed under the PID scheme.

From the CNS

Once you have been reimbursed under the PID scheme, you will receive from the CNS:

  • either a statement of services provided under the PID direct coverage procedure ("relevé des prestations fournies par voie de prise en charge directe PID"), filed digitally after each consultation directly in your private eSpace on MyGuichet.lu, if you have activated the eDelivery function;
  • or a statement of services provided under the PID direct coverage procedure ("relevé des prestations fournies par voie de prise en charge directe PID") sent by post once a month, if you have not activated the eDelivery function on MyGuichet.lu.
How do I activate the eDelivery function on MyGuichet.lu to receive my PID statement digitally?

How do I activate eDelivery? It's simple:

  1. Access your private eSpace on MyGuichet.lu with your authentication method (LuxTrust, GouvID, eIDAS) by clicking here.
  2. Under "My data > Health insurance fund > Activation of services", scroll down to "eDelivery: Receive your documents in PDF format" ...
  3. ...and click on "Activated" !
Why am I not receiving my co-insured family member's PID statement in my personal eSpace on MyGuichet.lu?

The PID statement is always sent directly to the patient:

  • If the co-insured patient has a personal space on MyGuichet.lu and has activated the eDelivery function, they will receive the PID statement in their eSpace immediately after the consultation.
  • If the co-insured patient does not have a personal space on MyGuichet.lu, they will receive the PID statement by post during the first week of the month following the consultation.
Do I still have to send a document to the CNS?

No! The receipt you received from the doctor should not be sent to the CNS, as the CNS paid the doctor directly, therefore no reimbursement is required.

The PID-statement you received from the CNS can be used to send to your supplementary health insurance, if you have one.
