National Contact Points for crossborder healthcare

Each European country (EEA) has identified at least one National Contact Point (NCP) responsible for providing essential information on cross-border healthcare.

The two Luxembourg contact points

Luxembourg has designated two contact points for cross-border care with different priorities depending on the subject of your question. If necessary, they work together to best meet the needs of both patients and providers.

National Health Fund (Caisse nationale de santé CNS)

The contact point at the CNS deals primarily with questions concerning:

  •   reimbursement of the costs of cross-border healthcare;
  •   prior authorisation of care abroad;
  •   tariffs and rates of reimbursement applicable under the Luxembourg social security system.

National information and mediation service in the health field

The National information and mediation service in the health field deals with questions from patients insured abroad who wish to be treated in Luxembourg:

  • Luxembourg's health system (providers, standards, quality, etc.);
  • rights and obligations of patients;
  • dispute resolution (steps in the event of a dispute).

When it comes to cross-border care abroad by a person insured in Luxembourg, this service is available for:

  • questions of a general nature;
  • dispute resolution (steps in the event of a dispute).

If, however, the main point of your question concerns the actual reimbursement of healthcare abroad, you should get in touch with the CNS's contact point.

Network of contact points for cross-border care

Each EEA country has at least one national contact point that can answer your questions on the organisation of healthcare and cross-border care:

  • Available care (providers and institutions)
  • Costs and quality of care
  • Method of reimbursement
  • Steps in the event of a dispute
  • Accessibility of facilities for people with disabilities
If necessary, please do not hesitate to contact the contact point in the country in which you wish to be treated or in which you have been treated. The contact details of the designated contact points are available on the  Europa.eu website.
