Digital transmission of certificates of incapacity for work – Countdown

From 1 January 2027, the digital transmission of certificates of incapacity for work (eCIT) will become mandatory.

We invite you to start preparing for this change now and to check with your medical software publisher that the necessary adjustments will be implemented by the deadline.

In accordance with Article 9 of the specifications, the CNS will make available, from 1 October 2026, the reference documents relating to the digital transmission of eCITs, including the XSD files required to adapt software.

This publication triggers the three-month deadline provided for in Article 9. You therefore have until 31 December 2026 to adapt your tools and procedures to the defined technical standards.

How can you prepare?

If you are not yet able to generate eCITs, we would advise you to contact your medical software publisher straight away to ensure that the necessary changes are implemented by the deadline.
If your software does not yet support the digital transmission of eCITs, you can temporarily use the alternative solution offered by the CNS. However, this solution offers more limited functionality than the solutions integrated into medical software.
