What is the CNS?

Divided into two branches - health, maternity and long-term care - the National Health Fund (CNS) manages the benefits for all PRIVATELY INSURED and STATE WORKERS.

For the public sector, three health insurance funds are responsible:

  • the Health Insurance Fund for Civil Servants and Public Employees (Caisse de maladie des fonctionnaires et employés publics-CMFEP),
  • the Health Insurance Fund for Communal Civil Servants and Employees (Caisse de maladie des fonctionnaires et employés communaux-CMFEC),
  • the CFL Health insurance fund (Entraide médicale de la société nationale des chemins de fer luxembourgeois-EMCFL).

When to contact the CNS?

TO GET REIMBURSED FOR HEALTH CARE

To obtain a refund, you must send the original paid invoices to the CNS. Don't forget to include your national identification number and attach a bank statement if this is your first request.

Good to know: from Luxembourg, there is no need to stamp the envelope.

TO REPORT INCAPACITY FOR WORK

The CNS manages the file and is responsible for the payment of compensation in the event of:

  • Illness or accident;
  • Exemption from work;
  • Maternity or adoption leave;
  • Leave to accompany a person at the end of life;
  • Leave for family reasons.

TO OBTAIN CARE, SUPPLIES OR SPECIFIC MEDICINES.

The CNS validates the prescription and issues a certificate of coverage, for example for:

  • Physiotherapy, speech therapy, psychomotor therapy sessions, etc.
  • Prostheses (hearing aids, etc.)
  • Certain medicines that require authorisation.

TO OBTAIN AN INTERNATIONAL FORM

As a Luxembourg affiliate residing abroad, the CNS provides the document required for registration with the local fund.

TO UPDATE PERSONAL INFORMATION

such as address, bank details, family situation, etc.

Good to know: for Luxembourg residents, the municipality of residence is responsible for updating the family status and address in the National Registry of Natural Persons (Registre national des personnes physiques, RNPP).

OBTAINING A DOCUMENT

To exercise your rights, you can contact the CNS to obtain various documents such as the social security card, the European health insurance card, or a co-insurance certificate.
