What is the CNS?
Divided into two branches - health-maternity and long-term care - the CNS manages benefits for all INSURED PERSONS IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR and MANUAL WORKERS EMPLOYED BY THE STATE.
Three sickness funds are responsible for the public sector:
- Caisse de maladie des fonctionnaires et employés publics (CMFEP), health insurance fund for civil servants and public employees working for the State.
- Caisse de maladie des fonctionnaires et employés communaux (CMFEC), health insurance fund for civil servants and employees working for communes.
- Entraide médicale de la CFL (EMCFL), health insurance fund for employees of the CFL.
How do I contact the CNS?
- By post
- By telephone
- By e-mail
- By visiting a CNS agency

When should I contact the CNS?
TO HAVE MY HEALTHCARE COSTS REIMBURSED
To get reimbursed, I send the CNS the original invoices. I don't forget to provide my national identification number and enclose a bank identification statement (RIB) if this is my first claim.
Good to know: from Luxembourg, there's no need to stamp the envelope.
TO DECLARE AN INCAPACITY FOR WORK
The CNS manages my file and is responsible for paying compensation in the event of:
- Illness or accident
- Exemption from work
- Maternity or adoption leave
- Family hospice leave
- Leave for family reasons
TO OBTAIN SPECIFIC CARE, SUPPLIES OR MEDICATION.
The CNS validates my prescription and provides me with a certificate of coverage, for example for:
- Physiotherapy, speech therapy, psychomotor therapy, etc.
- Prostheses (hearing aids, etc.)
- Certain medicines that require authorisation
TO OBTAIN AN INTERNATIONAL FORM
As an insured person in Luxembourg living abroad, the CNS provides me with the document I need to register with the local fund in my country of residence.
UPDATE MY PERSONAL DETAILS
such as: address, bank details, family situation, etc.
Good to know: for Luxembourg residents, the commune of residence is responsible for updating the family situation and address in the National Register of Natural Persons (RNPP).
OBTAIN A DOCUMENT
To claim my rights, I contact the CNS to obtain various documents: social security card/European Health Insurance Card, co-insurance certificate, etc.
