Contact points for cross-border healthcare

Each European country has identified at least one National Contact Point (NCP) responsible for providing essential information on cross-border healthcare.

Luxembourg has designated two contact points for cross-border healthcare with different priorities depending on the subject of your question.

If necessary, they collaborate to best meet the needs of patients and healthcare providers.

Everything I need to know

Luxembourg has designated two points of contact for cross-border healthcare: the National Health Fund (CNS) and the National Healthcare Information and Mediation Service ("Healt mediator"-("médiateur santé")).

National Health Fund (CNS)

The CNS point of contact deals primarily with questions concerning:

  • reimbursement of cross-border healthcare costs;
  • prior authorisation for treatment abroad;
  • the tariffs and level of reimbursement applicable under the Luxembourg social security system.

National healthcare information and mediation service

The National Healthcare Information and Mediation Service deals with questions from patients registered abroad who wish to be treated in Luxembourg:

  • Luxembourg healthcare system (healthcare providers, standards, quality, etc.);
  • patient rights and obligations;
  • dispute resolution (procedures in the event of a dispute).

With regard to cross-border care for Luxembourg nationals abroad, this service is available to patients for:

  • general questions;
  • dispute resolution (procedures in the event of a dispute).

However, if the main point of your question concerns the specific reimbursement of care abroad, the point of contact established at the CNS should be contacted.

If necessary, do not hesitate to contact the point of contact for the country in which you wish to be treated or in which you have been treated. The contact details of the designated points of contact are available on the Europa.eu website.
